Mouton occupies 954 North High Street, at the top end of the Short North Arts District where the commercial strip begins to thin out towards Fifth Avenue. It has been a fixture of the Columbus cocktail scene for well over a decade, predating most of the bars now clustered along the same stretch, and trades on a narrow, low-lit room and a list that runs specialty drinks alongside properly made classics rather than chasing a concept.

What distinguishes its non-alcoholic offering is duration rather than scale. Plenty of Columbus bars produce a zero-proof list in the first week of January and quietly retire it in February; Mouton keeps mocktails on the menu all year, with the bar reporting that orders rise through the three months when abstinence campaigns run — Dry January, Dry July and Sober October — rather than existing only for them. That continuity is the practical difference for anyone who does not drink year-round: the drinks are trained, the ingredients are stocked, and ordering one in April does not require a conversation. Three have settled as the ones the bar is known for. The Painkiller is a zero-proof reading of the tiki classic, which transfers well because the original is largely pineapple, orange, cream of coconut and nutmeg with rum providing weight. The Thai Me Down leans on South-East Asian aromatics. The Hidden Temple is the third of the trio local coverage consistently names. The room opens at 5pm from Wednesday, runs to midnight on Friday and Saturday, and closes Mondays and Tuesdays — worth checking before an early-week visit, as the northern end of High Street is quieter than the blocks below Goodale. The bar sits at the quieter end of the district, a few blocks above the busiest stretch of High Street, which makes it a more workable option for conversation than the larger rooms further south. It is a small space with a long bar, and the drinks are made to order rather than batched, so the zero-proof builds take the same time and attention as the rest of the list.
