G4.2 Minshull House, Little David St, Manchester M1 3GL
Red Light is a female-owned, independent speakeasy hidden behind the red-brick façades and cobbled walkways of Kampus, in a converted Victorian warehouse on the edge of Manchester's Gay Village. It was opened in May 2023 by Deana Ferguson, a longtime Manchester hospitality figure who previously worked at Ducie Street Warehouse and Hawksmoor, with the aim of creating a proudly queer bar that "couples' incredible drinks with top-notch service". There is no signage beyond a single red light glowing on Little David Street — a nod to the area's hidden history — and the room within has earned a place on the Top 50 UK Cocktail Bars list.\n\nInside it is intimate and low-lit: plush booths and banquette seating, portraits and queer local artwork lining the walls, a disco-leaning soundtrack, and outdoor seating that opens up in the warmer months. It bills itself as an LGBTQ+ bar that welcomes everyone, dog-friendly and laid-back, equally suited to a quiet date or a late-night group. The cocktail list runs from the coconut-fat-washed Red Light Calling (Beefeater gin, Fino sherry, citrus and house-made lychee soda) to a deep martini selection, with £8 martinis every Wednesday afternoon.\n\nThe alcohol-free programme is given genuinely equal billing rather than tucked away as an afterthought. The team builds its zero-proof serves from the same components as the full-strength drinks — house-made acidulated juices, seasonal sorbets and specialist 0% spirits — to recreate the texture, acidity and complexity of a real cocktail. Manchester's Finest singled the bar out in its January 2026 round-up of the best places in the city for alcohol-free drinking, noting that partying "doesn't have to mean boozing, especially when their non-alcoholic serves are as chic as their alcoholic counterparts", and warning drinkers not, under any circumstances, to call them mocktails. Since the closure of Love From, the city's first dedicated alcohol-free bar, Red Light has become the de facto AF-friendly stop for anyone who wants a considered no/low serve in a proper cocktail room.
