16-Bit is a 21-and-over retro arcade bar on East New York Street downtown, where the cabinet games are free to play and the money is made at the bar. That model happens to make it one of the easier nights out in Indianapolis for someone who is not drinking, because the reason to be there is the arcade rather than the round. The non-alcoholic list is longer than most bars manage and every drink is named in the same register as the cocktails: Kissed By A Rose is built on Seedlip Garden 108 with hibiscus, lemon, rose and mint, Gym Class Zero runs desert pear with lime and tonic, and Pinky and the Brain, Optimus Prime and Lisa Simpson fill out the simpler end.
Order: Kissed By A Rose (Seedlip Garden 108, hibiscus, lemon, rose, mint) · Gym Class Zero (desert pear, lime, tonic) · Pinky and the Brain (fruit punch, lemonade)
Hours: Mon-Thu 4pm-11:30pm; Fri 4pm-2:30am; Sat 12pm-2:30am; Sun 12pm-11:30pm

The Ball & Biscuit opened on Massachusetts Avenue in June 2010 and is generally credited as Indiana's first craft cocktail bar. It was founded by local attorney Trevor Belden with bartender Zach Wilks, who later left to build the Wilks & Wilson syrup line, and takes its name from the 1930s ribbon microphone nicknamed the ball and biscuit — vintage mics and music gear are part of the fit-out. For a bar of that vintage the non-alcoholic list is unusually developed: seven named zero-proof drinks stand alongside the full-proof menu rather than in a footnote, including the Spritz AF built on Lyre's Italian Orange and Aperitif Rosso with Fre sparkling brut, the Twist of Fate, the New Fashioned and the floral Whole Garden.
Order: Spritz AF (Lyre's Italian Orange, Lyre's Aperitif Rosso, lemon, orange juice, Fre non-alcoholic sparkling brut) · Twist of Fate (zero-proof spirit, ginger syrup, basil concentrate, lemon, club soda) · New Fashioned (alcohol-free old fashioned)
Hours: Mon-Thu 4pm-12am; Fri-Sat 4pm-2am; Sun 4pm-12am

Sundry & Vice
Massachusetts Avenue (Bottleworks District)
Sundry & Vice is an apothecary-themed cocktail bar inside the Bottleworks Hotel at the top of Massachusetts Avenue, opened on 23 October 2021 as the second location of the Cincinnati bar of the same name in Over-the-Rhine. The fit-out runs to pharmacy cabinetry, tincture bottles and a soda-fountain sensibility, and the program is built on house-made syrups, freshly squeezed juice and cocktails on draft. That component-driven approach is why the zero-proof drinks work: The Young and the Spiritless layers Spiritless non-alcoholic bourbon with pineapple, cinnamon, orgeat, plum bitters, mint and ginger beer, and 24 Carrot Magic builds Seedlip Grove over carrot, lemon, pineapple, black pepper and ginger.
Order: The Young and the Spiritless (Spiritless non-alcoholic bourbon, pineapple, cinnamon, orgeat, plum bitters, mint, ginger beer) · 24 Carrot Magic (Seedlip Grove, carrot, lemon, pineapple, black pepper, ginger)
Hours: Mon closed; Tue-Thu 4pm-1am; Fri-Sat 4pm-2am; Sun 4pm-12am

The Inferno Room is a tiki bar on Virginia Avenue in Fountain Square, opened on 11 September 2018 by longtime tiki collector Ed Rudisell with his wife Sasatorn Rudisell and partner Chris Coy, in a building that once held a Marion County courthouse. It holds what the bar describes as one of the largest collections of Papua New Guinea art outside a museum, split across the Kahuna Lounge and the Luau Room. The non-alcoholic drinks are printed as their own MOCKTAILS section of the cocktail menu at $10 each — the Coocoonut Grove, The Way to Eden and Veiled Virtues — built to the same tropical, layered spec as the rum drinks rather than reduced to fruit juice.
Order: Coocoonut Grove (coconut, pineapple, cinnamon, walnut bitters, lemon) · The Way to Eden (passion fruit, orgeat, pineapple, kiwi, prickly pear, lemon) · Veiled Virtues (strawberry, cinnamon, coconut, pineapple, lemon, orange juice)
Hours: Mon closed; Tue-Thu 4pm-11pm; Fri 4pm-1am; Sat 2pm-1am; Sun 4pm-11pm

Cannon Ball Lounge sits six floors up on the roof of Hotel Indy on East Washington Street, and is the only indoor-outdoor rooftop bar downtown — which matters in a city with four distinct seasons. It is named for Erwin "Cannonball" Baker, the Indianapolis motorcyclist who rode in the first Indianapolis 500 and set transcontinental records for decades afterwards, and the drinks list leans on local reference points throughout. The non-alcoholic drinks are a printed zero-proof section rather than an afterthought: I Miss My Spritz is built on DHOS Bittersweet Aperitif and non-alcoholic sparkling wine, Good Graces runs lemon, guava and honey against New Orleans non-alcoholic bitters and ginger beer, and the Tail of Thyme uses a house plum-lavender syrup.
Order: I Miss My Spritz (DHOS Bittersweet Aperitif, non-alcoholic sparkling wine) · Good Graces (lemon, guava, honey, New Orleans non-alcoholic bitters, orange, ginger beer) · Tail of Thyme (house plum-lavender syrup)
Hours: Mon-Thu 4pm-11pm; Fri-Sat 4pm-12am; Sun 4pm-10pm
How this page decides what counts
Three facts, all verified, all required. The venue has to rate at least 4 of 5 for its non-alcoholic program — a fully alcohol-free room, or a licensed venue with a strong named zero-proof list, the same floor our Indianapolis sober bars page uses. It has to be somewhere you can sit, so bottle shops are out. And its hours have to run past midnight on at least one night, which is what makes this a nightlife page rather than a second copy of the sober bars list: at that cut a restaurant with a good zero-proof menu drops out, and the bars, lounges, kava bars and late coffeehouses remain.
“No alcohol served” is written on a card only when the venue's own verified description says so — never inferred from a rating or a name. Everything else here is a bar with a real non-alcoholic program, and it is labelled as a bar. Hours are the venue's live listing, re-synced weekly; the drinks on each venue page were read off its current menu and carry the date we last confirmed them.
Questions people ask
Yes. We have verified 5 Indianapolis venues that both keep a strong zero-proof list and stay open past midnight on at least one night: 16-Bit Bar+Arcade, The Ball & Biscuit, Sundry & Vice, The Inferno Room, Cannon Ball Lounge. The latest close we found is 2:30am.
None of the 5 listed here is a fully alcohol-free room; all are licensed venues with a strong, named zero-proof list. If "no bar tab anywhere in the building" is the requirement, check the city page for alcohol-free cafes and bottle shops that close earlier.
Every venue here closes after midnight on at least one night; the card for each shows the latest closing time and how many nights a week it applies. The list is ordered latest-first. Hours come from each venue's live business listing and are re-synced weekly — but late hours are the first thing a bar trims, so check the day before a special trip.
Order from the zero-proof list by name — every venue here has one, and each venue's own page lists the drinks we read off its current menu with ingredients and prices. A named drink built on a real non-alcoholic spirit (Seedlip, Lyre's, Ritual, Pathfinder and the like) is a different thing from a soda with fruit in it, and it is priced and served like a cocktail. If the list has changed since we checked, ask what the bar is making that week rather than for "a mocktail".
It is an honest one. The venues marked "no alcohol served" are rooms where nobody at the next table is drinking either, and for many people that is the only kind of night out that works. The licensed venues are bars — good ones for a non-drinker, but bars — and the page says so plainly rather than blurring the two. Choose by the label, not the name.
