Sober Travel Guide: Where to Drink in Bend Without Alcohol

Bend has more breweries per head than almost any town in America, so its alcohol-free scene grew where you would expect — out of the beer. Crux Fermentation Project brews the NØ MØ series in house, a real non-alcoholic line rather than a bought-in can, now stretching to a hazy and an autumn fresh-hop release; Deschutes pours Black Butte N/A at its downtown public house, keeping the roasty depth of the porter that built the company; and Worthy's Hop Quencher is hop water, all the resin and bitterness of an IPA with no alcohol, calories or sugar. The cocktail rooms have caught up. Waypoint by Bend Brewing Co. builds spirit-free drinks on Pathfinder with the same structure as the rest of its list and rotates them seasonally, Bar RBC runs a dedicated zero-proof menu including a Phony White Negroni, and Dear Irene makes a Pathfinder-and-bitters old fashioned in a room designed so nobody feels like the odd one out. Beyond downtown, Hosmer Bar covers all three bases with zero-proof classics, NØ MØ on tap and Fre wines by the glass, JIA runs three named zero-proof builds on the south side, and 3rd Street Beverage stocks alcohol-removed spirits and wines deep enough to build a home bar from. One caveat worth carrying: Oregon's hemp rules mean several Bend venues file CBD and THC drinks under “zero proof” — Silver Moon's Downshift and Boneyard's tap elixir both contain active compounds, so read the label if that is a line you keep.
