Boneyard Beer

Boneyard started in a small building on NW Lake Place, assembled from second-hand equipment scavenged from other breweries — which is where the name comes from — and grew into one of Bend's best-known hop-forward producers. The original tasting room is still there, an unfussy space in a converted auto shop that the brewery itself brands as the Old Bend room.

Its contribution to the town's alcohol-free options is a CBD elixir served on tap, in two flavours that rotate. Having it on draught rather than in a can is the interesting part: it is poured like a beer, into a glass, at the bar, which preserves the ritual that non-drinkers most often lose. It is deliberately light and crisp rather than sweet, and the brewery pitches it at the specific moment when you have been out on a trail all day and a full pint feels like too much.

The plain flag, as with several Bend venues: this drink contains CBD. CBD does not produce the intoxication that alcohol or THC does, and it is legal and widely sold across Oregon, but it is an added active compound rather than a flavouring, and anyone avoiding all such substances should order something else. The tasting room pours plenty that is simply beer or simply soft drinks.

Hours are the thing to plan around here — this is an afternoon room, not an evening one. It is closed Monday and Tuesday entirely, runs noon to seven Wednesday through Saturday, and closes at five on Sunday. That makes it a stop on the way back from the mountain rather than a night out.
