Hosmer Bar

Hosmer Bar is the bar of the Waypoint Hotel on 3rd Street in midtown Bend, named for Hosmer Lake up in the Cascade Lakes — the one where the fishing is fly-only and the water is clear enough to see the bottom. The bar was reworked with inclusivity as an explicit goal, and in practice that means the non-alcoholic offer is structural rather than decorative.

It works on three levels at once, which is unusual. First, the cocktails: the bar makes zero-proof versions of the classics rather than inventing sweet alternatives — a negroni, a bloody mary, sours. Those are the drinks people actually miss, and rendering a negroni without alcohol is a real test of a bar's willingness to stock proper non-alcoholic bitters and aperitifs. Second, the beer: Crux's NØ MØ is on, so the local non-alcoholic IPA is available in a hotel bar rather than only at the brewery. Third, the wine: Fre alcohol-removed wines are poured by the glass, which is the thing most bars skip entirely and the thing that most often strands a non-drinking guest at a dinner.

On top of that, the bar will substitute non-alcoholic spirits into other drinks on request, so the list is not a hard boundary. Between the four routes, a non-drinker at Hosmer has roughly the same range of choices as anyone else at the bar — which is the actual definition of an inclusive drinks programme, and rarer than it should be.

One practical note: the bar is closed on Tuesdays, and Sunday is the outlier in the other direction, opening at ten in the morning. We have not published drink names or prices, as the bar does not publish a menu online — the Facebook page is its main presence.
