Fre has been making alcohol-removed wine since 1992, which makes it one of the longest-running non-alcoholic wine programs in the United States. It is produced by Trinchero Family Estates in Napa Valley: real varietal wine is made first, then the alcohol is gently removed using spinning-cone technology, a low-temperature process that preserves the wine’s aromas before returning them to the finished blend.
Because it starts as actual wine rather than a grape-juice blend, Fre keeps recognizable varietal character across a broad lineup — Brut, Chardonnay, Rosé, Moscato, Cabernet Sauvignon, and a Red Blend — at less than 0.5% ABV. Wide grocery distribution has made it the NA wine most Americans encounter first.
