The distinction is bigger than it sounds. Every other venue here is a licensed bar or restaurant with a good zero-proof section — which is genuinely useful, but it still means walking into a room built around alcohol and ordering the exception. At Hash there is no exception, because there is no alcohol. For someone in early recovery, for whom a wall of bottles is not neutral scenery, that changes the calculation entirely. It also removes the small social friction that a non-drinker in a bar absorbs all evening without ever quite naming.

The kitchen is fully vegan, which pairs naturally: this is a room designed around what people want to put in their bodies, and the drinks follow the same logic rather than imitating cocktails for the sake of it.

One thing to understand before going. The drinks can be upgraded with CBD or Delta-8, the latter being a psychoactive hemp derivative. That is a choice, not a default, but it means the room is not a guaranteed intoxicant-free space in the way the alcohol-free framing might suggest. Anyone whose sobriety covers all substances should order accordingly and can simply decline the upgrade.

The hours are the main practical obstacle and they are genuinely odd for a bar: 11am to 7pm, closed Wednesday and Thursday. This is effectively a daytime and early-evening venue, so treat it as lunch, an afternoon or an early drink rather than a night out. It is south of the centre and not walkable from downtown, so plan transport — but for anyone who wants a room with no alcohol in it at all, it is the only address in San Antonio that qualifies. That scarcity is worth stating plainly: a city of 1.5 million people has exactly one fully alcohol-free bar, and it closes at seven and shuts two days a week. The demand is clearly there — what is missing is somewhere open at nine on a Saturday, and until that exists Hash carries the whole load on its own.
