512 S 5th St, St Charles, MO 63301

Kickin' it with Kava has operated at 512 South Fifth Street in St. Charles since 2018, which makes it one of the longer-established alcohol-free rooms in the St. Louis metro and the only dedicated one in St. Charles County. Its own signage is unambiguous — non-alcoholic lounge — and the hours support the claim: doors at 2pm, closing at 11pm Sunday through Wednesday and at midnight from Thursday through Saturday, with a monthly events programme documented through the venue's photo gallery.

St. Charles sits about twenty-five miles north-west of downtown St. Louis on the Missouri River, and its historic Main Street district is heavily given over to bars, wineries and brewery taprooms. A room a couple of blocks off that strip that trades to midnight and serves nothing alcoholic fills an obvious gap for anyone living in St. Charles, St. Peters or O'Fallon who does not want to drive into the city to avoid a drink.

Kava anchors the menu. It is the ground root of Piper methysticum, a South Pacific shrub, infused in water and drunk socially across Fiji, Vanuatu, Tonga and Samoa for roughly three thousand years. It contains no alcohol, tastes earthy and bitter, numbs the lips and tongue, and is mildly sedative rather than intoxicating in the way alcohol is. It is the reason the venue is categorised as a kava bar here.

The rest of the menu requires an honest description, because it is unusually wide and because the people most likely to consult this directory are the people for whom the distinction matters. **The lounge publishes three menu categories: kava, CBD, and a section it calls other options — and that third section covers delta-8 and delta-9 THC products, blue lotus, botanical blends and mushroom elixirs.** None of these is alcohol, which is the venue's claim and it is true. But several of them are actively psychoactive, and delta-8 and delta-9 in particular are cannabinoid products rather than herbal teas. This directory has declined to list outright THC dispensaries that also sell kava, on the grounds that they are the wrong fit for a recovery-adjacent audience. Kickin' it with Kava is not that — it is a kava lounge whose primary identity is the kava, with a hemp counter attached — but the difference is one of degree, and the honest thing is to say so plainly rather than to let the words non-alcoholic do work they were not meant to do. If your recovery rules out intoxicants generally, read the menu headers here and ask what is in the cup.
