Mélange by Cali Sober opened on 14 November 2025 in the room above Bamboula's at 516 Frenchmen Street, with its own balcony looking down over one of the busiest live-music strips in America — which is exactly the point. Frenchmen Street is where New Orleans goes to drink, and until this opened there was nowhere on it to spend an evening without alcohol. It comes from Monica Olano, a New Orleanian and mother of three who built a national following as Cali Sober Mom and opened the Cali Sober Market in Metairie the year before. Press has described it as the first non-alcoholic, functional and THC beverage bar on the street. There are small plates, including boudin balls, and the room runs Thursday through Sunday evenings.

The name is doing precise work, and it deserves unpacking rather than glossing. "California sober" means abstaining from alcohol while continuing to use cannabis, and Mélange is built on that definition: it is alcohol-free but explicitly not substance-free. Alongside genuinely non-alcoholic cocktails it serves kava, functional-mushroom drinks and hemp-derived THC beverages that it describes as compliant with the 2018 Farm Bill and Louisiana regulations. The mechanic that matters most is how the THC is served: in individual vials, so the guest adds their own dose rather than receiving a fixed-strength drink. That means a named drink here is not inherently infused — the Mélange Old Fashioned, the Vesper Martini and the Cali Sober Love Potion are functional or non-alcoholic builds, and the menu explains for each whether it is designed to give an energy buzz, a calming effect, or a THC buzz. For someone avoiding alcohol who wants cannabis, this is close to an ideal room. For someone avoiding both, it is entirely usable — but order without the vial and say so clearly, because the default assumption here runs the other way.
