9 Mile Brewing Co.

9 Mile Brewing Company is Bloomington's first brewery, in a James Avenue South business park near the Mall of America in the southern Twin Cities metro. A scratch kitchen, Creekside Kitchen, opened on site in March 2025. What sets it apart from the dozens of other taprooms in this metro is that it actually brews its own non-alcoholic beer in house, rather than stocking someone else's — and it does so in a style almost nobody attempts.

The programme is built on the brewery's house sour grist, producing rotating non-alcoholic sours: releases have included a Non-Alcoholic Peach Passionfruit Sour finished with Sabro hops, and a summer orange-mango version. Sours are a genuinely clever choice for non-alcoholic brewing, and the reason is technical. The great weakness of NA beer is thinness — remove the alcohol and you remove much of the body, which is why so many non-alcoholic IPAs taste hollow. A sour leans on acidity and fruit for its structure rather than on alcoholic weight, so the format survives dealcoholisation far better than most.
