Plot Twist

Plot Twist opened in April 2026 at 1518 Lyon Court in Plaza Midwood, and it was built from the start as a third space — somewhere that works at seven in the morning and at ten at night without changing what it is. Co-founder and general manager Nikki Velazquez runs it with Sarah Woods, and the project was deliberately woman-led throughout: not only the leadership team but the designer, the architect and the artists involved. That intent shows in how the day is structured. The doors open at 7am Tuesday through Friday and 8am at weekends, closing at 10pm midweek and 11pm on Friday and Saturday, with Mondays off. There is no point in the day when the room switches from being a cafe to being a bar; the counter simply serves whatever you want at whatever hour you arrive.

What makes it useful to a non-drinker is that the same kitchen work goes into the drinks whether or not they contain alcohol. The bar builds around eight house-made syrups, and those syrups run across the whole range — into the coffee, into the cocktails, into the mocktails and into the dirty sodas, which means a zero-proof order is made from the same components as everything else rather than from a separate shelf of mixers. Dirty sodas are worth calling out as a format, since they are common in Utah and Idaho and still rare in the Southeast: a flavoured soda built with cream and syrup, sweet and substantial, and entirely alcohol-free by nature rather than by substitution. Two honest caveats. Plot Twist does not publish a menu on its website, so the specific drinks rotate and cannot be checked in advance — worth asking what syrups are on when you order. And because it opened recently, the coverage of it is still thin, so the range described here is the shape of the programme rather than a fixed list.
