Savoy Society

Drayton Tower is an anomaly in Savannah — a 1951 modernist apartment slab of glass and steel dropped into a city of eighteenth-century squares and Victorian brick — and Savoy Society runs along its ground floor on Liberty Street. The bar leans into the contrast: a late-night room with a terrace, global small plates, poke and ceviche alongside the drinks, open until midnight most nights and 1am at weekends.

The cocktail programme is built from house components rather than bought mixers, and the alcohol-free drinks draw on the same shelf. The most interesting is a spirit-free old-fashioned made with yaupon tea and sugar bitters — yaupon being the only caffeinated plant native to North America, and a genuinely local choice for a coastal Georgia bar. A Carrot Colada runs carrot, pineapple, coconut and lime, and a drink called Dock of the Bay puts cold brew with mint, coconut and lime under tonic, which is a much stranger and better idea than it sounds.

This listing is graded three rather than four. Savoy Society does not print a standing zero-proof heading the way Husk, Peregrin, Bar Julian, Water Witch and Ardsley Station do, and the three drinks above come from Savannah's tourism guide rather than from a menu that could be read live — the bar publishes its list as images. Given how many drink names in this city have rotated off since that guide was written, none are recorded here as signature drinks. What is well evidenced is that alcohol-free builds are part of the bar's normal repertoire rather than an off-menu favour.

A scheduling note: Savoy Society is closed on Tuesdays, opens at 4pm on weekdays and 3pm at weekends, and is one of the few kitchens in the Historic District still serving late.
