Non-Alcoholic Cocktail Bars in Pittsburgh, PA

Craft cocktail bars and lounges in Pittsburgh that take their non-alcoholic program seriously. Pittsburgh built its identity on beer and steel, so it fits that the city's brewers have led its non-alcoholic turn. Two Frays in Garfield was the first Pittsburgh brewery to brew its own NA beer on-site; Cinderlands pours hop water in the Strip District; and both East End and the ginger-beer specialists at Jackworth keep zero-proof pours on tap. The clearest anchor is The Open Road, a fully alcohol-free bottle shop on Garfield's Penn Avenue stocking 400-plus NA beers, wines and spirits, with Bantha Tea Bar a few doors down serving the city's only cafe kava menu. Across the river in Millvale, the queer-owned Harold's Haunt keeps a rotating "Fauxtions" menu year-round and hands the whole bar over to alcohol-free service on its first- and third-Sunday "Sober Sunday" nights. The cocktail depth runs through Lawrenceville and downtown — Bar Botanico, the Butterjoint in Oakland, and Market Square's Space Bar all build real zero-proof lists — and the serious kitchens play along, from the jazz supper club Con Alma and Strip District mainstays Kaya and ELEVEN to North Side's Fig & Ash, Lawrenceville's Pusadee's Garden, the Hotel Monaco's Commoner, and the landmark Grand Concourse in Station Square. For a quiet afternoon, Dobra Tea in Squirrel Hill pours an all-day, alcohol-free tea menu.

    Bar Botanico

    Lawrenceville

NA Program Strength: 4 of 5?

Bar Botanico is a plant-filled Lawrenceville cocktail bar with a strong zero-proof lineup built on NA spirits. Signature mocktails include the Cut Above Mezcal Sour (Cut Above NA mezcal, coconut water, lapsang, jalapeno, lemon, vegan foamer), a Seedlip Highball and a Seedlip Espresso Martini, plus Red Ribbon seltzer and house-made lemonade and citrus soda. It is frequently cited among the city's best mocktail bars.

    Butterjoint

    North Oakland

NA Program Strength: 4 of 5?

Butterjoint is a bar and restaurant at 208 North Craig Street in North Oakland, serving Pittsburgh comfort food and French bistro classics. It opened next door to Legume in late 2012 under Trevett and Sarah Hooper, and absorbed that restaurant's space when Legume closed for good in February 2020; the Hoopers sold the business in November 2023 to George Austin, who had been their executive chef since 2021 and still runs it. Its non-alcoholic drinks sit under a menu heading called "Hold the Booze" and run across all three lists. There is one house zero-proof cocktail at a time, currently the Concrete Jungle bird ($12) built on house-made non-alcoholic rum and non-alcoholic Campari with pineapple, lime, cinnamon and jalapeño; Leitz sparkling Riesling is poured as the non-alcoholic wine ($10); and the beer list carries Guinness Zero, Bitburger Premium Pils and an Aslin blackberry-and-blueberry sour at $6 a can. The cocktail slot rotates several times a year, so the name changes even though the section does not.

    Space Bar

    Market Square (Downtown)

NA Program Strength: 3 of 5?

Space Bar is a science-fiction-themed molecular mixology lounge at 22 Market Square in Downtown Pittsburgh, opened on 18 November 2023 by Elizabeth Menzel, a retired trauma healer who bills herself as Healer to the Stars, and Dale Thomas Vaughn, a science-fiction writer who works in AI. The room is built around screens of deep space and neon, and Vaughn's stated intent is that a spaceship is inherently optimistic — people need hope, and they want to be a centre for the dreamers. The food is entirely vegetarian, including an Olympus Mons Gyro of oyster mushrooms with house-made socca and a Binary Hummus Platter. The non-alcoholic offering has grown substantially since opening: where early coverage said any cocktail could simply be made virgin, a dated 2026 guide describes five or six standing zero-proof cocktails at any time, including alcohol-free versions of menu drinks and originals, singling out an NA Tartooine Sour. The bar's live menu is published through a system we cannot read, so confirm the current list on arrival. Open from 4pm, closed Mondays.

What separates a good NA cocktail bar from the rest?

A great non-alcoholic cocktail bar isn't defined by whether it stocks Seedlip on the shelf. It's defined by whether the bartenders treat alcohol-free drinks as cocktails — built with the same logic, the same balance, the same care for mouthfeel and presentation as the alcoholic side of the menu.

The signal: a printed NA section on the menu with named drinks, an NA-spirits row on the back bar (Lyre's, Seedlip, Wilderton, Ritual, sometimes Monday Zero Alcohol Gin or Wilderton Lustre), house-made shrubs and bitters available for NA builds, and staff who can talk through what's in a drink without defaulting to "we can do something with juice."

The opposite: a generic "mocktail" line item priced at $8 with no description, or worse, a Shirley Temple by default. We rank cocktail-style venues here by NA Program Strength and lead with the venues that have published named NA drinks on their menu.
