3rd Space Kava takes its name from the sociological idea of the third place — the room that is neither home nor work — and it is built accordingly. It runs from noon to 2am seven days a week, stretching to 3am on Friday and Saturday, and fills the space with things to do rather than just things to drink: pool, board games, gaming stations, karaoke nights, Guitar Hero tournaments, and Magic: The Gathering play on the first and third Wednesday of each month with open, tournament-style and draft formats. Happy hour runs buy-one-get-one on kava, and dogs are welcome. In Davie — a Broward County town whose evening options otherwise run to chain restaurants and sports bars — a room like this doing genuine late-night hours with no alcohol at all is a real piece of infrastructure for anyone not drinking.

The kava side is properly done. Traditional shells are poured from noble root at three graded strengths: the White Sand shell, a lighter drink for sipping; the King's Kava shell, robust and nutty with a strong finish; and the Ceremonial shell, the strongest of the three and traditionally the ceremonial preparation. A house Kokkaido shell built on watermelon kava is made fresh daily, and The Roman is a concentrated kavalactone shot the bar rates as equivalent to three or four regular shells. Prices for traditional shells start under $5.

One thing has to be flagged clearly rather than buried, because this directory is read by people in recovery. **A substantial share of this menu is kratom, not kava.** There is a dedicated kratom cocktail list running six drinks, a kratom drinks section with gold shots, sodas and seltzers, and kratom extract appears in several of the staff-pick builds too. The bar restricts all kratom to 21 and over, which is the responsible line, but the distinction still matters: kava is a South Pacific root with no alcohol and no known physical dependence, while kratom is a Southeast Asian leaf whose alkaloids act on opioid receptors, carries real dependence and withdrawal risk, is banned in several states, and whose concentrated 7-OH derivatives are under active federal scheduling. Plenty of people choose kava precisely because it is not that. Here, you need to read the menu section headers before you order.
