1820 Harrison St, Hollywood, FL 33020
The Harrison Street room in downtown Hollywood is where Elixir started, in February 2023, and it now anchors a four-site South Florida group. Two of the others already appear in this directory — the South Beach boutique on Meridian Avenue and the North Miami room on 123rd Street — and a fourth opened on the Hollywood Beach Broadwalk in December 2025. This original keeps the longest hours of the group by a margin: 10am to 3am, every day of the week, which makes it one of very few genuinely late alcohol-free rooms anywhere in downtown Hollywood.
The group sells itself as an organic mocktail bar and social workspace, and that dual framing is literal rather than decorative. Through the day the room functions as somewhere to work, with the power and connectivity that implies; through the evening and deep into the night it functions as a bar. Downtown Hollywood's Harrison Street strip is dense with conventional bars and restaurants, so a room on the same block trading to 3am without a liquor licence is a direct substitute rather than a consolation.
Kava is the foundation of the drinks list. It is the ground root of Piper methysticum, a South Pacific shrub, prepared as a water infusion and drunk socially across Fiji, Vanuatu, Tonga and Samoa for around three thousand years. It contains no alcohol, tastes earthy and bitter, numbs the lips and tongue at first sip, and is mildly sedative rather than intoxicating in alcohol's sense. Alongside it sits a genuine mocktail programme built on organic ingredients, which is presented as a headline rather than as an afterthought — the right way round for the audience this site serves.
One thing needs stating clearly rather than being left to a menu board, and it is the reason this entry carries a caution. **Elixir's menu is built on two pillars, kava and what it markets as K-Tea, and K-Tea is kratom.** The house framing describes it as a beverage from Indonesia and the Polynesian islands, a phrasing that folds two unrelated plants into a single tradition. They are not one tradition and they are not one risk profile. Kratom is the leaf of Mitragyna speciosa, a Southeast Asian tree, and its principal alkaloids act on the opioid receptors; regular use produces tolerance and a real withdrawal syndrome, several US states prohibit it outright, and its concentrated 7-hydroxymitragynine derivatives are the subject of live federal scheduling action. Kava has no equivalent dependence profile.
On a menu board the two sit inches apart and cost about the same, which is precisely why the distinction is easy to miss. If you have come to kava specifically to avoid substances that can take hold of you, order by name here, and ask.
