Dishoom built its reputation on transplanting the Irani cafes of old Bombay to London, and the Boundary Street branch carries the formula deep into Shoreditch: veranda tiles, ceiling fans, all-day cooking and queues that start before the doors open. What earns it a listing in an alcohol-free directory is the drinks list's structure. Where most restaurant groups scatter a mocktail or two among the soft drinks, Dishoom writes a named Teetotal Tipples section, eight drinks introduced as absent of any alcohol, each with a full build and a price that signals the bar takes them as seriously as the paid-by-the-measure page. The standouts read like proper cocktails because they are: the Sober Summer Negroni sets green apple and apricot against no-alcohol gin, vermouth and bitter syrup; the Teetotal Espresso Martini pulls espresso through black cardamom, cinnamon and ginger; the Crystal All-Clear Mojito clarifies a house mojito cordial with mint, cardamom, lime and a zero-proof aperitivo.

The setting does the rest of the work. Because the room runs from breakfast chai through to a midnight close at the end of the week, an alcohol-free visit slots in at any hour without ceremony: a morning meeting over a bacon naan roll, an afternoon of house chai, or a full evening around the black daal with a teetotal round that costs and drinks like the real thing. The Permit Room bar downstairs pours the same zero-proof list, so waiting for a table is not a soda-water sentence either. Shoreditch has no shortage of bars with a token virgin option, but a kitchen-anchored room where eight alcohol-free drinks are named, built and priced with intent remains unusual, and for groups that mix drinkers with non-drinkers it removes the usual negotiation entirely. Booking ahead helps at peak times, though the walk-in queue moves faster than its reputation suggests.
