Golden Kava Lounge sits at 16399 South Golden Road, on the far western edge of the Denver metro where Golden meets the foothills, and its own description of itself is the most economical summary anyone has written of what a good kava bar actually is: the vibe of a coffee shop mixed with a nightclub. It serves kava teas, it hosts events, it stays open into the small hours, and it has never served alcohol.
Its significance to the Colorado scene is out of proportion to its size. The five people who founded Denver Café & Kava — Kevin Bloom, Elizabeth Leung, Cam Webbe, Jayden MacDonald and Jack Kestian — met one another here, as customers, and went on to open the city's own version on East Colfax in early 2026. That is the clearest evidence available that this room does the thing it sets out to do. A venue that turns its regulars into friends, and then into business partners who build another one, is functioning as a third place in the full sense rather than as a retail outlet with seating.
The programming runs to live music, game nights and themed gatherings, and the drinks are kava alongside a curated range of exotic teas and specialty products. Kava is the ground root of a South Pacific shrub, prepared as a water infusion; it contains no alcohol, tastes earthy and bitter, numbs the lips and tongue on the first mouthful, and is mildly sedative — which is why it works as a social drink rather than merely as a substitute for one. It has been drunk communally across Fiji, Vanuatu, Tonga and Samoa for around three thousand years.
One practical note. Published hours for this venue disagree across sources: Google currently reports it as open 24 hours, while the lounge's own listings describe an 8am to 4am day, seven days a week. Either way it is among the latest-trading alcohol-free rooms in Colorado, but if you are planning an overnight visit it is worth checking on (720) 663-7996 first. The lounge's active presence is on Instagram rather than a conventional website, which is where events are announced.
