The relocation is the important detail for anyone navigating by an older listing: the College Avenue address is no longer current. The shop is queer, immigrant and furry owned, and functions as a community hub as much as a cafe — there is a lending library, a published set of public resources, and a rolling calendar of weekly events, mixers and meets. Its logo was drawn by Alix, a local trans non-binary artist, and the shop passes 100 percent of the profits from logo merchandise back to them. A sign behind the counter reads "This coffee kills fascists."

What makes it relevant here is that Lotus Brew is not a coffee shop that happens to have a couple of mocktails. Its own site advertises a Queer Dry Bar as a distinct part of the business, running an alt non-alcoholic queer night space with a weekday happy hour from 4pm to 6pm, and its online ordering menu carries a dedicated Non Alcoholic Cocktails category alongside the espresso and tea lists. Nothing on the premises contains alcohol, which puts it in a small group of Grand Rapids venues where a sober guest is not making a substitution.
