Moon Flower is a fully alcohol-free cocktail lounge that exists by taking over another business after dark: Thursday through Sunday evenings it occupies Maya Moon Collective, the ceremonial-cacao café and organic chocolate shop on Adams Avenue in Normal Heights. The zero-proof programme is run by co-owner Grace Mestecky alongside Maya Moon founder Kathryn Rogers, who launched the collective's booze-free menu in 2023; the evening lounge format took shape the following year. Sharing a room this way is a smart answer to the hardest economics in this category — an alcohol-free bar carries a bar's costs without a bar's margins — and it means the space arrives already furnished with the warmth of a café rather than the fluorescence of a juice counter.

The menu rotates seasonally and leans on functional and adaptogenic ingredients, local produce and herbs, building spirit-free riffs on classic cocktails rather than sweet inventions. Smoke and Mirrors is the clearest demonstration: non-alcoholic whiskey with black cardamom, orange bitters, burned honey and lapsang souchong, a drink constructed entirely around smoke and bitterness, which are precisely the registers that bad zero-proof menus avoid. Spiritual Rest combines Dromme and Everleaf with lemon, honey, ginger and turmeric. Hi Barbie! is the showpiece, built on non-alcoholic gin and non-alcoholic bubbly with prickly pear, strawberry, yuzu, lime and kanna. Mestecky has described the reception plainly: "People don't always understand the concept. But when they see the thought and intention behind the drink, it sells them pretty fast." That is the whole argument for this kind of room in one sentence — the barrier is not demand, it is that most people have never been handed a good example.
