Pig Latin

Pig Latin sits on South Rivershore Lane in Eagle, the well-heeled suburb about fifteen minutes north-west of downtown Boise, on the Boise River. It is a restaurant rather than a bar, and its drinks list covers mocktails, coffee and matcha.

That three-way spread is the reason it earns a listing. Most venues serve one kind of alcohol-free drink well: a coffee shop does coffee, a cocktail bar does mocktails, a tea room does tea. Someone not drinking across an entire day has to move between venues to cover the range. A restaurant doing all three means the same room works for a morning coffee, an afternoon matcha and an evening mocktail — and the hours support exactly that, opening at 10am at weekends and 11am midweek, running to 11pm on Friday and Saturday.

Geography is the other argument. Everything else in this guide is downtown Boise, on the Bench, or out in Nampa. Eagle is a substantial and growing part of the metro with very little alcohol-free provision documented at all, so a single venue covering the whole day there is worth more to a local than a fourth cocktail bar on 8th Street would be.

The grade is an honest 3: the individual drinks are not documented in detail, and mocktails-coffee-matcha describes a range rather than a designed programme. But range is exactly what a suburb needs, and the riverside setting makes it a pleasant place to spend an afternoon without a drink in hand. Worth asking what the current mocktails are, since restaurant lists of this kind rotate more often than a dedicated bar's. The river setting also makes it a genuinely pleasant place to sit for an afternoon, which is rarer than it should be for a suburban restaurant.
