Qamaria Yemeni Coffee Co. (Eden Prairie)

Eden Prairie's Prairie Center Drive is a suburban retail corridor of the kind that rarely produces a late-night social room, which is part of why Qamaria's arrival there on 15 February 2025 mattered locally. It was the chain's third Minnesota shop, after Little Canada in mid-2024 and Blaine that December, and it remains the only Yemeni coffeehouse in the southwest metro — the nearest comparable rooms are twenty miles north-east on Central Avenue. Qamaria was founded by Yemeni entrepreneurs and builds its coffee list around the preparations of particular Yemeni villages, so what reaches the counter is a set of named traditional drinks rather than a roast-and-size grid. There is no alcohol licence and no bar.

Qishr is the drink that most surprises first-time visitors: it is brewed from the dried husk of the coffee cherry rather than the bean, spiced with ginger and cinnamon, and drinks closer to a spiced tea than to coffee. Mufawaar is coffee prepared with cardamom and cream, Juban is a lighter regional preparation, and Aden tea is the spiced black tea that Yemeni coffeehouses across the United States have made their calling card. The house Qamaria latte carries cardamom and cinnamon; a pistachio latte, a full espresso bar, iced refreshers and blended smoothies cover the rest of the board, and the pastry case runs to pistachio milk cake, honeycomb bread and Dubai chocolate. The value of the shop for anyone not drinking is structural rather than novel: it opens at 8am and does not close until 11pm on weeknights or 1am from Friday through Sunday, which is later than any bar-free option in Eden Prairie, and it is set up for groups to sit for hours rather than to order and leave. Qamaria's three Minnesota shops share a single Instagram account and keep near-identical menus, so what is described here holds at Blaine and Little Canada as well; what differs is the drive. For the south-west metro this is the only room of its type, and the nearest alternative of any kind is more than twenty miles away.
