Southernside Brewing Co.

Southernside Brewing is on Delano Drive in the neighbourhood it is named for, just north-west of downtown Greenville and directly on the Swamp Rabbit Trail — the converted rail corridor that runs through the city and is the reason a lot of people are here in the first place, on foot or on a bike.

That setting is the argument for the listing. A brewery on a trail is somewhere people arrive mid-afternoon having done something else, which is a much easier social context for a non-drinker than a bar at ten at night. The space is large, part indoor and part beer garden, and nobody is counting rounds.

The alcohol-free position is honestly modest and this entry grades it accordingly at three. TOWN Carolina's survey of Greenville's mocktail scene records that Southernside is happy to craft an alcohol-free drink — an on-request offer rather than a printed list, which is normally where this directory stops reading. It is included here for two reasons. The offer is stated publicly rather than having to be extracted at the bar, which removes the social cost of asking. And a brewery is the venue type where a non-drinker most often finds nothing at all, so a taproom that will actually build something is worth knowing about.

Open 11am to 10pm Tuesday through Thursday, 11am to 11pm on Friday and Saturday, and 11am to 9pm on Sunday. Closed Monday. The all-day hours and the trail access together make it the easiest venue in this guide to fold into a daytime rather than an evening.
