Tavolàta on West Grove Street is the Boise location of Ethan Stowell's Italian group, and the concept is built around a long communal table running down the centre of the room, handmade pasta, and a menu meant to be shared.

That format does something specific for a non-drinker. At a bar, the drink is the entire proposition, and the person not holding one is visibly outside the activity. At a communal table with plates arriving in the middle, the food is the event and the drinking is incidental to it — nobody is tracking who is on their third glass, because everyone is reaching for the same bowl of pasta. It is the same reason restaurants are generally easier than bars, amplified by the seating.

The two named alcohol-free drinks are Donn's Fizz and White Sands. The first is almost certainly a nod to Donn Beach, the founder of tiki, whose drinks were built on layered syrups, citrus and spice — a style that translates unusually well to zero-proof because the character never lived entirely in the rum.

The hours are the practical strength. Tavolàta opens at 4pm and serves until 10pm every day of the week, which sounds unremarkable until you look at the rest of this guide: Free Spirits is open two days, Art Haus four, Saltbrush six, Craft Lounge six. Boise's alcohol-free scene has good drinks and awkward schedules, and a seven-day restaurant with named zero-proof options is the reliable default when a plan changes. It sits next to Saltbrush and a short walk from the 8th Street cluster. For a group where only some people are drinking, a shared-table restaurant is usually a better call than a bar, and this is the most convenient one downtown.
