2307 Manor Rd, Austin, TX 78722
The Butterfly Bar opened in February 2011 inside The VORTEX, a long-running non-profit live theatre in East Austin's Manor Road corridor, evolving from the theatre's small beer-and-wine cafe into a full-service bar after it secured a mixed-beverage license in 2013. Every drink purchased supports the resident performing artists. The bar pours from a historic bartop reportedly over 200 years old and opens onto a patio that is a certified monarch butterfly garden, with butterflies present in summer. Alongside craft cocktails, bar manager Kellee Broadway runs a dedicated, named mocktail menu priced around $8. Confirmed zero-proof drinks include Aphrodite's Kiss (pomegranate, pineapple, lime, ginger beer) and the Queen Bey, a strawberry-limeade mocktail dusted with tajín that Broadway created. The on-site Patrizi's food truck serves housemade Italian pasta in the garden, and the adjoining black-box theatre hosts live performance most Thursday through Sunday, plus trivia, improv, and movie nights.
