Sober Bars in Spokane, WA

Spokane lost its only fully alcohol-free venue before this guide was written: Patera Temperance Lounge on East Sprague, and The Wet Whistle downtown — the coffee bar that built most of its drinks on Wilderton — have both closed, and both are still listed as open by several current directories. What survives is a set of licensed rooms that treat the category seriously, several of them all-ages. Zola, the live-music bar on Main, expanded its mocktail list under head bartender Sheldon Moore, who has been sober since 2023 and builds them with measured pours and real non-alcoholic spirits rather than juice. Garden Party, a plant shop and bar on South Madison, runs a full mocktail menu and does not check ID at the door. The Boneyard in Spokane Valley is an all-ages lounge whose owner makes the Side Hustle syrup line every drink is built on. Wild Sage prints three named mocktails, Bijou works from house elderflower and lavender syrups and butterfly pea flower tea, and Lunarium on North Monroe keeps a late-night tea and craft-soda list running to midnight with no alcohol on it at all. This city opens at ten venues, the floor of its band, and the gap is honest: two of the rooms that would have led it are gone.

Bars with serious NA programs in Spokane

These bars serve alcohol but run extensive NA programs — meaning the zero-proof side is a real menu, not a Shirley Temple afterthought.

  1. #1 · Extensive NA menu

    Zola

    Downtown

    ★★★★?

Zola is a live-music bar and restaurant on Main Avenue in downtown Spokane, a room built out of salvage and oddities with bands most nights. Its mocktail list is the most deliberately constructed in the city, and the reason is personal: head bartender Sheldon Moore expanded it after getting sober, and holds the alcohol-free drinks to the same standards as the cocktails — measured pours, proper technique and real non-alcoholic spirits, with Figlia among his preferred bases. His stated aim is drinks with some bitterness and structure rather than another sweet soda, which is the complaint most non-drinkers have about bar menus. Open from 4pm, to midnight midweek and 1am on Friday and Saturday, closed Sunday.

  2. #2 · Extensive NA menu

    Garden Party

    Downtown

    ★★★★?

Garden Party is a combined plant shop and bar on South Madison Street in downtown Spokane, a room full of greenery where the drinks list runs to wine, wine cocktails, champagne cocktails, a couple of local taps from YaYa and Lumberbeard — and an entire mocktail menu of its own. Its most useful feature for a non-drinker is structural rather than liquid: the door is not carded, only the order is, so under-21s and anyone who would rather not be assessed on the way in can sit in the room like everybody else. Small bites rotate, with a grilled cheese made on bread from the bakery next door. Thursday to Saturday, 4pm to 11pm.

  3. #3 · Extensive NA menu

    The Boneyard

    Greenacres, Spokane Valley

    ★★★★?

The Boneyard is an all-ages craft cocktail lounge in the Greenacres part of Spokane Valley, opened by a mixologist who also produces Side Hustle Syrups — the craft syrup line every drink in the room is built on, alcoholic or not. That vertical integration is the reason its mocktails hold up: a Spokane Mule, a zero-proof Old Fashioned and a White Linen are made from the same house components as their full-strength counterparts rather than from a separate bottle of cordial. Being all-ages makes it one of very few rooms in the metro where a family or an under-21 group can sit at a proper cocktail bar. Wednesday to Saturday, 3pm to 9pm.

  4. #4 · Extensive NA menu

    Bijou

    Browne's Addition

    ★★★★?

Bijou is a neighbourhood cocktail bar in Browne's Addition, Spokane's oldest residential district, with a menu split between house specialties, classic cocktails, warm winter drinks, seasonal coffee blends and a standing mocktail section. The alcohol-free drinks are made from the bar's own components rather than bought mixers — butterfly pea flower tea, house elderflower and lavender syrups, fresh citrus — and the bartenders build to taste, asking which flavours you like and dislike before making something rather than pointing at a list. Open every day from 3pm, to midnight most nights and 1am on Friday, which makes it the most reliably open room in this guide.

  5. #5 · Extensive NA menu

    Wild Sage Bistro

    Downtown

    ★★★★?

Wild Sage Bistro is a long-running fine-dining room on West 2nd Avenue in downtown Spokane, serving contemporary American food seven nights a week from 4pm to 9pm. Its bar prints three named mocktails as a fixed part of the drinks list: a Spicy Sage Lemonade of freshly squeezed lemon with jalapeño and organic sage leaves, a caramelised Pineapple Mojito with fresh orange, organic mint and soda, and a Blackberry Limeade built on muddled blackberries with fresh lime and simple syrup. All three are constructed from produce rather than mixers, which is what distinguishes a restaurant that has thought about the category from one that keeps a bottle of grenadine.

  6. #6 · Extensive NA menu

    Lunarium

    North Monroe

    ★★★★?

Lunarium is a late-night tea and coffee lounge on North Monroe Street, opened in 2021 by Dorian Karahalios and Aimee Clark in a former boutique, and it does something almost nothing else in Spokane does: it keeps bar hours. The room runs from 3pm to midnight Wednesday through Saturday, serving slow-bar coffee, tea by the pot, house craft sodas, scratch-made baked goods and a dinner menu of toasts and grilled cheese, with a stage for live events. Its published drinks list carries no alcohol on it at all — which after the closures of Patera and The Wet Whistle makes it the most substantial late-evening room in the city for someone who is not drinking.

What makes a bar "sober-friendly"?

"Sober-friendly" covers a wider range of venues than people usually realize. On one end: a fully alcohol-free bar where every drink on the menu is zero-proof and the staff is trained around the experience. On the other: a regular cocktail bar with a couple of mocktails listed but a vibe that still revolves around drinking. Both can work, depending on what you need.

What we look for in a 5/5 rating: the entire menu is alcohol-free, the owners explicitly position the space as a non-alcoholic destination, and the staff treats NA drinking as the default rather than the exception. A 4/5 rating goes to bars that serve alcohol but maintain a deep, named NA program — usually with multiple signature mocktails and an NA-spirits section on the back bar.

We don't claim to be a recovery resource — for that, your local AA, NA, or SMART Recovery chapter is the right call. But for anyone choosing not to drink tonight, for any reason, this is the directory you want.
