Kava bars usually look one of two ways: a ceremonial room where the root is served traditionally from a bowl, or a wellness café where it sits on a menu next to matcha. 330 Main is neither. It is built as a bar — cocktails and shots, made with kava extract where the spirit would be — on East Main Street in Chattanooga's Southside, and it is fully non-alcoholic.

The couple who own it bring two different specialisms to the room. Her Filipino heritage runs through the food and beverage programme. He came up through craft coffee, craft beer, cannabis and hospitality across the Southeast, and is the creator of Kavanooga, a kava tincture developed locally — so the extract the bar builds on is a house product rather than a bought ingredient. That is the same vertical-integration signal that separates a serious alcohol-free programme from a token one anywhere else in this directory.

Alongside the kava drinks the bar pours yaupon on draft. Yaupon holly is the only caffeinated plant native to North America, and serving it carbonated on tap is a genuinely regional choice for a Southern bar — the sort of thing a good cocktail room does with an obscure amaro, applied to a category that usually settles for cola.

It also functions as a coffee house, which is what makes the hours work: doors at 9am seven days a week when open, running to 6pm midweek and 11pm on Friday and Saturday. One characteristic detail: guests are welcome to bring in food and drinks from other local businesses, which is a deliberately un-bar-like policy and tells you what the room is for.

A plain note, as always: kava is mildly psychoactive. This is a night out without alcohol rather than a substance-free room. Closed Monday and Tuesday.

Worth knowing for planning: 330 Main sits on the Southside within a few minutes' walk of Oddstory's taproom, with its five-category alcohol-free fridge, and of The Boneyard on Station Street, which stays open to 2am at weekends. That cluster is the reason this neighbourhood rather than downtown is where a non-drinker should start an evening in Chattanooga — it is the only part of the metro where you can move between three rooms across a night instead of settling into one and hoping.
