Beachside Social is on Atlantic Avenue at the Virginia Beach oceanfront, the strip of hotels, bars and boardwalk that most visitors to Hampton Roads actually stay on. Understanding that geography explains why a room with a fairly ordinary mocktail list earns a listing.

The oceanfront is a difficult place to not drink. Resort strips run on frozen daiquiris, buckets of beer and pitchers, because that is what a beach holiday crowd buys — and the drinks are built for volume rather than balance. Someone who is not drinking, whether by choice, pregnancy, recovery or because they are driving back over the bridge, will find plenty of soda and very little else. Meanwhile all of Hampton Roads' genuinely good alcohol-free drinking is in Norfolk, twenty minutes away across the water, which is no help at ten at night.

Beachside Social keeps mocktails on the menu in that environment, and Coastal Virginia Magazine describes it as a classic social spot with crowd-pleasing versions. Crowd-pleasing is the right expectation to set: these are approachable drinks in a busy ocean-facing bar, not the composed builds you would get at Only You or Gershwin's. The grade reflects that honestly.

What it offers is a normal night out in the place people are actually staying. It opens at 5pm midweek, from noon on Saturday and Sunday, and runs to midnight on Friday and Saturday, which covers the hours a beach evening actually happens in. Closed Mondays. For a visitor without a car, it may be the most practical option on this entire list. Anyone with transport should treat it as a convenient fallback rather than a destination, and cross to Norfolk for the region's real depth.
