Elixir Kava Boutique's South Beach room bills itself as Miami's first kava speakeasy, a fully alcohol-free lounge a short walk from the water at 418 Meridian Avenue. It is one of four Elixir locations across South Florida, which gives it something most independent kava bars lack — consistency of sourcing and preparation across sites.

The pours are freshly brewed kava and K-Tea, its kratom line, served in Red, Green and White strains plus a House Blend, alongside a roster of named mocktails: the Kavapolitan (kava, guava nectar, coconut milk, hibiscus syrup), Cinnamon Toast Krunch, The Thyme Machine, Blue Dream. Naming and building drinks rather than simply serving shells matters in South Beach specifically, where the surrounding competition is some of the most aggressive nightlife in the country and a plain cup of kava is a hard sell against it.

The room doubles as a social workspace, with WiFi, outdoor green-space seating and community events featuring live performances, and runs from early morning until 1am daily. It carries a 4.9 Google rating. There are no alcoholic drinks at all — the entire menu is non-alcoholic, which in South Beach makes it genuinely unusual rather than merely accommodating.

The caveat that belongs on every kava listing applies here and should not be softened: kava is psychoactive and sedating, with documented case reports of liver injury, and kratom acts on opioid receptors and carries real dependence and withdrawal risk. Everything served is free of alcohol. That is a narrower claim than nothing served having an effect, and for anyone whose reason for avoiding alcohol is recovery from a substance-use disorder, the difference is the whole question. South Beach is the hardest neighbourhood in Florida to spend an evening sober, which is precisely what makes a fully alcohol-free room a short walk from Ocean Drive worth knowing about. The speakeasy framing keeps it discreet rather than clinical, and the early-morning-to-1am span means it works as a workspace and as a night out on the same day.

One practical caution applies to every kava bar, here included. Kava is not alcohol, but it is psychoactive: it is a mild sedative and anxiolytic, and it interacts with alcohol, benzodiazepines and anything else that depresses the central nervous system. Some venues in this category also serve kratom, which is a different substance with a different and more contested risk profile, including physical dependence with regular use. If you are in recovery, treat that distinction as important rather than academic, ask staff directly what is in a drink before ordering, and check with a clinician if you take prescription medication. Staff at the established South Florida bars are generally straightforward about this if you ask.
