Fort Point Valencia

Fort Point Valencia is the Mission District beer hall of Fort Point Beer Company, the San Francisco brewery founded in 2014 by cousins Tyler and Justin Catalana in a Presidio building. The 22-tap flagship reopened at 742 Valencia Street in February 2022 after a redesign, trading the industrial look common to taprooms for colour-saturated plaster walls, oak woodwork and neon art, with a casual San Francisco seafood menu alongside the beer. It opens at noon daily and runs to 11pm on Friday and Saturday, and functions as a neighbourhood room rather than a destination brewery tour.

Fort Point belongs on this list because it is one of very few breweries pouring a non-alcoholic beer it brews itself. In January 2025, after roughly three years of research, it launched alcohol-free versions of its two best-known beers: NA KSA, a light crisp Kölsch-style ale, and NA Villager, a balanced San Francisco-style IPA. Both come in under 0.5% ABV and — importantly for flavour — are brewed rather than dealcoholized, using a Berkeley Yeast strain engineered to minimise alcohol conversion during fermentation, so the beer never has to have alcohol stripped back out of it. Mike Schnebeck, Fort Point's head of innovation, framed the goal in the brewery's own announcement: "Our NA beers are different for the same reasons our alcoholic beers are — balance, nuance, and approachability." The Valencia beer hall carries the line and prints a dedicated Zero Proof section on its menu, currently listing an NA KSA Michelada at $9, Casamara Club's Alta (juniper, allspice and clove soda) and Sera (cinnamon and orange blossom soda) at $6 each, a Pineapple Mint Tonic from Juice Shop at $6, and Mineragua sparkling water at $4. The michelada is the notable entry: a genuinely bar-shaped drink built on the house non-alcoholic Kölsch rather than a bottle handed over unopened.
