Grey Ghost Detroit

Grey Ghost opened in July 2016 on Watson Street in Brush Park, in the former Ye Olde Butcher Shoppe building near Woodward Avenue. Chefs John Vermiglio and Josef "Joe" Giacomino met working under chef Matthias Merges at Charlie Trotter's in Chicago before returning to Detroit to build a meat-driven restaurant and bar named for a Prohibition-era Detroit rum runner. The restaurant, part of Vermiglio's Four Man Ladder Hospitality group (which also runs Second Best across the street), marked its 10th anniversary in July 2026 with a throwback menu and an anniversary dinner held July 28.

The drink list has a standalone Mocktails section of six house-made non-alcoholic cocktails: Rule No. 1 (orange, blueberry, Calpico, lime), Back on Earth (earl grey, grapefruit, honey, pineapple, demerara, lemon, lavender cream), House Rock & Rye (house-made cherry, vanilla, cinnamon syrups, soda), Spa Water (cucumber, mint, honeydew, lime, soda), I Insist (royal coconut milk tea, cold brew coffee, pineapple, hot honey), and Cola de Jamaica (orange, Coca-Cola, hibiscus honey, lime). Guests who want a non-alcoholic beer instead can order Athletic Brewing's Free Wave (0.4% ABV, brewed in Connecticut), which is also listed on the printed menu.

Detroit Free Press picked out the House Rock & Rye in a 2024 metro-Detroit mocktail roundup, describing it as delivering the sweet-and-spicy flavor and crisp texture of Detroit's own Faygo Rock & Rye "without the questionable ingredients" — evidence the bar treats its non-alcoholic list as a real extension of its cocktail program rather than an afterthought.

Grey Ghost sits between Brush Park and Midtown, a short walk from Comerica Park and the Fox Theatre. It's open nightly: Sunday–Thursday 4pm–11pm, Friday–Saturday 4pm–midnight.
