Heck's Cafe opened on Bridge Avenue in Ohio City in 1974, in a brick building that predates the Civil War, and has spent fifty years as the neighbourhood's burger institution — long enough to have been there through Ohio City's decline and the whole of its revival. The dining room runs back into a glass conservatory, and the menu holds a consistent American bistro line: burgers ground in house, steak frites, salads, and a long Sunday brunch. The group describes its founding mission as sharing a passion for food and has kept the same values around fresh ingredients, community and sustainability since the early seventies. The Ohio City room is the original; locations in Avon and Beachwood followed, each with its own phone number and hours, so it is worth checking you are calling the right one.

The non-alcoholic offering is modest by the standards of the dedicated rooms on this list, but it is genuinely on the printed menu rather than made on request, which is the distinction that matters when you are ordering for a table. The pomegranate-ginger spritz at $10 is the one Cleveland Magazine singled out in its 2026 mocktail roundup — sweet, tart and spicy, built on non-alcoholic sparkling wine so it drinks like an aperitif rather than a soda, and holding its own next to the wine-by-the-glass list. A Passion Fruit Picante and one or two further mocktails sit alongside it.

The practical argument for Heck's is the clock. It opens at 11am six days a week and 10:30am on Sundays, where most of Cleveland's serious zero-proof programmes do not unlock their doors until 4pm. If you want a properly built non-alcoholic drink in the middle of a Tuesday afternoon in Ohio City, this is close to the only option.
