Pins Mechanical Co. sits at 307 W Tremont Avenue in South End, part of a chain founded by Columbus-based Rise Brands, and it is built around things to do rather than things to drink: twelve duckpin bowling lanes, more than forty pinball machines at a dollar a play, and a free arcade whose quarter slots feed a donation to Ronald McDonald House Charities rather than the till. That framing matters for a non-drinker, because the reason to be here is not the bar. It welcomes guests of all ages until 8pm, becomes 21 and over after that Monday through Saturday with no exceptions, and has no age curfew at all on Sundays — so a family or an under-21 friend can genuinely use the place. Leashed dogs are welcome inside and on the patios outside peak hours. It opens at 4pm midweek and from late morning at weekends, running to 2.30am on Friday and Saturday, and takes no reservations except for duckpin lanes.
The zero-proof cocktails are a named section of the menu rather than an afterthought, and both are built on Lyre's rather than juice. Carmen Sandiego ($11) combines Lyre's Aperitif Rosso and Lyre's Italian Spritz with honey mango and rose water, printed on the menu at 0.0% ABV. Johnny Tsunami ($11) is Lyre's Dry London with lavender and blue razz, also marked 0.0%. Below them sits a broader Alcohol-Free Beverages section carrying non-alcoholic cans between $5 and $7, mocktails aimed at kids, and non-alcoholic slush puppies — which, in a room full of bowling lanes and pinball, is a more useful offering than another aperitivo. Worth knowing that this cocktail programme is standardised across Pins locations rather than developed in Charlotte, so the same two drinks appear in Columbus, Cincinnati and Nashville. That consistency is not a criticism here: it means the drinks are properly specified and reliably made, which is more than many one-off bar programmes manage.
