Xul Beer Co. (West Nashville, formerly Southern Grist)

This taproom at 5012 Centennial Boulevard in The Nations spent ten years as Southern Grist Brewing before Knoxville's Xul Beer Co. acquired the business in August 2025 and took it over as its West Nashville location. It reopened after a 2026 redesign, pouring Xul's own releases alongside Southern Grist staples, with a big bar and a dog-friendly patio in one of the fastest-growing neighbourhoods in the city. What survived the handover, and the reason it is listed here, is Southern Grist's house-made zero-proof line. Oasis is a 0.0% hop water — purified carbonated water hopped with Citra and Motueka, producing bright floral and citrus notes with no alcohol, no calories and no malt. Hop water is a genuinely useful category that deserves more attention than it gets: it delivers the aroma and bitterness that make an IPA appealing without attempting the much harder trick of imitating beer's body, which is where most non-alcoholic beers fall down. A variant, CBD Oasis - Mango, adds mango alongside CBD from the local Nashville brand LabCanna. Oasis pours on draft and is also sold in four-packs and cases to take away.

That a new owner kept an in-house non-alcoholic product through an acquisition and a redesign says something about how well it sells. For a non-drinker, a taproom is one of the harder social settings — the entire premise is the beer — and being able to order something hopped, cold and on draft rather than a bottle of water changes the experience substantially. Open daily, to 11pm on Friday and Saturday. The Nations has become one of the fastest-changing neighbourhoods in Nashville, and the taproom's patio is a genuine local hangout rather than a tourist stop, which makes it an easy place to spend an afternoon whether or not you are drinking beer.
