Rooted In Sanity is Madison's first and only kava lounge, tucked at the back of the SolEscape Healing Arts Building on Williamson Street — lower level, down the ramp, following a painted teal line. Nothing served contains alcohol. It pours traditional kava by the shell alongside housemade mocktails, locally made teas and a full craft coffee menu, and furnishes the room for staying rather than drinking up: swinging chairs, couches and board games at the tables. It runs evening hours to 10pm most nights and 11pm at weekends, which makes it one of the very few genuinely alcohol-free rooms in Madison that is open when the bars are. Kava contains no alcohol but is psychoactive and mildly sedating.
