Bonfiyah Kava Lounge sits on the South Main Street corridor in South Salt Lake and keeps hours that make it structurally important to this city rather than merely pleasant. Doors are around 9pm and it runs to 5am Wednesday through Friday and 3am on Saturday and Sunday nights, with no alcohol served at any hour. That schedule is worth dwelling on: Utah's liquor laws require licensed bars to stop service at 1am, which means that for the four hours afterwards there is essentially nowhere in the Salt Lake Valley to sit with other people and a drink in your hand — unless the drink is not alcohol. A kava lounge running to 5am fills a gap that regulation created, and it does so for a crowd that includes both people who have finished a shift and people who do not drink at all.

The room itself is a Polynesian lounge, blending island ambience with a modern space, and it leans on live entertainment — Polynesian music shows are a regular fixture, with named performers booked in. Reviewers consistently mention the service, the shows, and that the kava is affordable and available in to-go containers if you would rather take it away. The Salt Lake kava scene is small enough that a survey of it in August 2026 could name only a handful of rooms; this is one of the two that matter, alongside the Kai Po lounge a couple of miles north. Kava deserves a plain description for an audience that includes people in recovery: it is made from the ground root of a South Pacific shrub steeped in water, has been drunk socially across the Pacific for around three thousand years, and contains no alcohol whatsoever — but it is a genuine relaxant and mildly intoxicating on its own terms, which is a real distinction if you are avoiding intoxicants generally rather than alcohol specifically. One practical caveat: this lounge changes its hours around its events calendar more than most, so check its social channels the day you plan to go rather than relying on a listing.
