DC Brau Brewing is a craft brewery and taproom in the Ivy City neighborhood of Northeast DC, co-founded by Brandon Skall and Jeff Hancock as one of the District's pioneering modern breweries. Its non-alcoholic offering, NA Brau, launched in late April 2024 and is billed as the first canned non-alcoholic beer brewed by a DC brewery. NA Brau is a 0.3% ABV pale ale modeled after DC Brau's flagship pale ale, The Public, using the same Centennial and El Dorado hops along with Caramel 40 and Munich specialty malts for a pale golden color. Rather than tunnel pasteurization, the brewery uses a hybrid Lallemand yeast strain plus Chinova Bioworks' Chiber mushroom-fiber extract as a natural antimicrobial, preserving the beer's flavor and carbonation. Co-founder Brandon Skall has said that in trials 'it's very hard for people to discern that it is NA.' The light, crisp, grassy pale ale is sold in cans at bars, restaurants, and retailers across the region and is available on the taproom list at the Bladensburg Road brewery, which is open Thursday through Sunday. The launch was covered by Washingtonian and DC Beer, both of which noted its distinction as DC's first locally canned non-alcoholic beer.
