Garden Party opened at 107 South Madison in downtown Spokane as two businesses in one room: a plant shop you can buy from and a bar you can sit in, with the stock doubling as the decor. The drinks list is unusual in shape — wine and wine cocktails, champagne and champagne cocktails, a couple of beers on tap from Spokane-area brewers YaYa Brewing and Lumberbeard Brewing, and a full mocktail menu running alongside all of it rather than tucked underneath.
The detail that matters most here is not on the menu at all. Garden Party does not check ID at the door; it checks at the point of order. That single operational choice makes the room genuinely all-ages, and it solves a problem that comes up constantly for people who do not drink — being carded, sorted and implicitly asked to justify yourself before you have even sat down. A teenager, a pregnant friend, someone in recovery and someone ordering a glass of wine can all occupy the same table here on the same terms.
The botanical setting is not incidental to the drinks either. A bar whose stock-in-trade is plants has a natural pantry to work from, and the mocktails lean on that rather than on bottled mixers. Food is a rotating small-bites list — a grilled cheese made with bread from Twenty-Seventh Heaven, the scratch bake shop next door, plus a charcuterie board and flower spring rolls.
The hours are the main constraint and they are tight: Thursday, Friday and Saturday only, 4pm to 11pm, closed the other four days. This is a weekend room, and on a summer Saturday it fills. Worth checking the shop's Instagram before travelling, since a plant business keeps different rhythms from a bar and the schedule has moved before.
“We sell fancy cocktails and plants at the same time. (It's) a good place to hang out, do work, sit and have a drink.”— Kadra Evans, owner, Garden PartySpokane Journal of Business, Jul 20, 2023 →
