For non-alcoholic drinkers, Golden Ratio does something most bars won't: it refuses to relegate zero-proof options to an afterthought. Opened in November 2025 on Greene Avenue in Clinton Hill, this bar from Redwood Hospitality runs a menu of 16 NA cocktails alongside 16 spirited ones—not adapted versions of boozy originals, but parallel expressions developed from the same seasonal ingredient. The zero-proof drinks get the same technique, the same house-made distillates, and very nearly the same price tag, signaling that the bar takes both formats equally seriously. It won a spot in the inaugural NYC Best Bars for NA Awards 2025, presented by Bright Nights Social and Boisson.
The drinks are organized by ingredient rather than spirit, so you'll see entries like "Purple Shiso," "Grand Fir," and "Pine" on the board—each with alcoholic and NA interpretations listed side by side. Beverage director and Redwood partner Piper Kristensen makes water distillates and hydrosols in-house using a rotary evaporator, capturing volatile flavors from items like day-old sourdough from sister bakery Laurel and spent Meyer lemon rinds from Place des Fêtes. The NA Pine drink, for example, uses pine nut, lactose, and lemon; the Grand Fir NA version carbonates a hydrosol of grapefruit peels into a bright, resinous soda. Nothing on the backbar comes from a familiar commercial label—it's all proprietary.
The room is minimal and warm—bare beige walls, ochre bar stools, cobalt blue cushions, and repurposed furniture—with a central bar, banquettes, and a small standing area. Reservations are available through Resy but walk-ins fill the bar most nights. The crowd skews toward well-dressed Brooklynites in their 30s with a genuine curiosity for unfamiliar flavors; this is not the bar for someone who wants a standard gin and tonic. Culinary director Daniel Martignon runs a short, vegetable-forward snack menu designed to match the drink program's logic, with dishes like leeks vinaigrette and smoked sunchoke profiteroles. Good for a first date, a solo drink at the bar, or dragging visiting friends somewhere they won't find anywhere else.

“Clinton Hill's new Golden Ratio earned praise for giving every cocktail on its menu a true non-alcoholic counterpart—thoughtfully matched, not simply de-boozed—while quietly running a near-zero-waste program.”Source →
