531 Hudson St, New York, NY 10014
Opened in 2018 on Hudson Street by Tokyo native Masahiro "Masa" Urushido (co-author of "The Japanese Art of the Cocktail") with partners Greg Boehm and James Tune, Katana Kitten channels the spirit of Tokyo's Golden Gai dive bars through a Japanese-American lens, its split-level rooms decked in Japanese film posters, Americana trinkets and dollar bills tucked into hanging lights. The bar was named America's Best New Cocktail Bar at Tales of the Cocktail in 2019 and has placed repeatedly on The World's 50 Best Bars list. The cocktail program leans on highballs, boilermakers and Japanese-inflected signatures, served alongside sake, beer, wine and Japanese whisky. Non-drinkers get a genuine option rather than an afterthought: a named no-ABV Hojicha Carajillo built on non-alcoholic agave spirit with Kyoto hojicha, milk, piloncillo, lemon and chili; non-alcoholic beer (Good Time IPA or Pilsner); and signature highballs such as the Shiso Gin & Tonic and Yokocho Paloma that can be made alcohol-free with Seedlip Garden, Seedlip Notas de Agave or Seedlip Spice.
