1452 Franklin St, San Francisco, CA 94109

Haraz Coffee House opened its first San Francisco cafe on the corner of Franklin and Bush streets in Cathedral Hill, bringing the Dearborn, Michigan chain to California for the first time. The company was started in 2021 by Hamzah Nasser, who built it around Yemeni coffee culture and heritage; by the time of this listing the group described itself as having grown to 31 locations with a further 185 in the pipeline. The San Francisco room follows the format that has made the category grow so quickly across American cities: a large, comfortable, brightly lit space designed for sitting rather than for takeaway, open until 11pm every night of the week, and serving no alcohol at all.

The drinks list is the reason the venue matters to anyone drinking without alcohol. Traditional Yemeni preparations anchor it — Harazi Mufawar, made with coffee, cardamom and cream; Adeni and Karak chai, black tea cooked with the house Haraz spice blend and cream; Jubani, Sana'ani and Maleki coffees; and Qishr, brewed from the dried husks of coffee cherries rather than from the bean itself. A Saudi coffee with saffron and cardamom and a Turkish coffee with cardamom sit alongside them, and there is a Saffron Adeni and a Red Tea for guests who want something lighter late in the evening. A conventional espresso bar covers cortados, americanos, cappuccinos and a house Haraz latte, with pistachio, saffron and salted caramel variations, plus a matcha range in strawberry, mango, lavender, dragon fruit and coconut, a set of frappes, and cold refreshers built on hibiscus, pomegranate and mango dragon fruit. Food leans on Yemeni baking: golden saffron cakes, honeycomb pastries and cream-cheese-stuffed breads served hot with honey. Because nothing on the premises is alcoholic, the venue reads as a full evening destination rather than as a daytime coffee shop with an early close.
