Haraz Coffee House (Nashville)

Haraz Coffee House opened at 901 Woodland Street in June 2024, in the Wabash building next door to The Basement East, and it is the Nashville outpost of a Yemeni coffee chain founded in Dearborn, Michigan. The local franchise is run by Abdelrahman Abdelwahed with partner Jobran Mohamed. The company's whole premise is single-origin: the beans are grown in the Haraz Mountains of western Yemen, sun-dried rather than washed, and the chain markets them as organic and pesticide-free. The build-out, documented by the coffee trade title Sprudge in August 2024, was done by architect Mubarak Hauter and designer Lorraine Nassif, and the details are specific — handmade blue Turkish tiles across the counter and back wall, intricate geometric Arabian woodwork, and a Yemeni-style majlis couch set at the entrance. In the owner's own words to Sprudge, the space is beautifully illuminated with natural light.

What makes this a going-out venue rather than a morning coffee stop is the clock. Haraz runs until 10pm Sunday through Wednesday, 11pm on Thursday and midnight on Friday and Saturday, and no alcohol is served at any point. WPLN, Nashville's public radio station, reported in March 2025 on exactly this — a cluster of Muslim-owned Nashville coffeehouses keeping late hours and building what the station described as a sober nightlife culture meant to run year-round rather than only through Ramadan. The menu supports the evening: alongside lattes there is Harazi Mufawar, a coffee with cardamom and cream; Adeni chai, black tea with haraz spice and cream, and a saffron version of the same; Sana'ani, black coffee with cardamom; Qishr, brewed from coffee husk with cinnamon and ginger; and Jubani, which uses the bean with the same spices. Desserts and pastries run alongside. Two practical notes: the entrance is off the interior of the Wabash building rather than directly on Woodland Street, and the room fills late on weekend nights, when it functions much more like a bar than a cafe.
