HomeMakers Bar opened in Over-the-Rhine in 2019, the project of co-owners Julia Petiprin and Catherine Manabat. The room leans into a "slightly retro, mostly modern" aesthetic — colorful, kitschy, and built as a warm "home away from home" that honors makers of all sorts. Petiprin is one of Cincinnati's most prominent bar operators, also behind Sundry and Vice, Fifty Fifty Gin Club, and the design consultancy House of Departure; her fingerprints on the drink program are a big reason HomeMakers turns up in nearly every local non-alcoholic roundup.
The no-proof menu is a standing fixture, not a seasonal afterthought: six alcohol-free cocktails, each priced at $10 and made with a non-alcoholic spirit alongside house syrups, fresh juice and proper garnish. The Echo layers Seedlip Garden with cucumber, rye syrup, lemon, salt and egg white; the Katz Nap uses a mezcal alternative with tepache, grapefruit and lime; the Boatbuilder folds sage, raspberry, cinnamon, honey and fee foam over a mezcal-alternative base; and the Toy Gun rebuilds a French 75 with Seedlip Spice, lemon and non-alcoholic sparkling wine. Petiprin has said she enjoys the challenge of creating mocktails with the same texture, balance and complexity as a full cocktail. The attached bottle shop extends the program to takeaway, carrying Seedlip Spice, Athletic Brewing's Free Wave Hazy IPA, non-alcoholic sparkling Riesling, and Fever-Tree tonic and ginger ale.
HomeMakers sits at 39 E 13th St, in the heart of OTR's bar district. It's closed Mondays and opens at 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday (Friday until 2 a.m.), with weekend hours starting at 1 p.m. Saturday (until 2 a.m.) and Sunday (until 8 p.m.). Expect a lively, design-forward space that suits both a full night out and a sober-curious drop-in — this is a full-service cocktail bar, so the zero-proof list sits alongside a spirited menu rather than replacing it. Call ahead at 513-394-7559 to confirm the current no-proof lineup, which rotates.
