The Clearwater branch of Kava Culture sits on the US 19 corridor in north Pinellas County and keeps the longest hours of the group's Tampa Bay rooms — 9am to 2am, every day of the week. It serves no alcohol.

Pinellas County is, by a wide margin, the densest kava territory in the United States. St. Petersburg is frequently described as the unofficial kava capital of the country, with dozens of kava bars across the county, and this directory already lists Grassroots, Bula Kafe, Muddy Water, Speakeasy Central and Mad Hatters Ethnobotanical in St. Petersburg alone, plus Low Tide and The Muddy Root down in Gulfport. What Clearwater has lacked is a northern anchor: the county's kava scene is concentrated in its southern half, and the towns along the upper US 19 corridor — Clearwater, Dunedin, Palm Harbor, Safety Harbor — have been comparatively bare. This room fills that gap, and its 2am close makes it a genuine late-night option rather than an early-evening one.

Kava is the ground root of Piper methysticum, a shrub native to the South Pacific islands, prepared as a cold water infusion and drunk socially across Fiji, Vanuatu, Tonga and Samoa for roughly three thousand years. It contains no alcohol. It tastes earthy and bitter, numbs the lips and tongue on the first mouthful, and is mildly sedative rather than intoxicating in the way alcohol is. Kava exhibits reverse tolerance, which means regular drinkers typically need less rather than more to feel it, so a first visit rewards a slow pace across an hour or two.

The group's format is hand-brewed kava customised with botanical infusions, served from a bar counter with room to sit, and it is consistent across every Kava Culture site — which is genuinely useful if you have found one you like and are travelling elsewhere in Florida.

The caution is the same across the whole chain and belongs stated plainly. **Those botanical infusions are mostly kratom, sold under white, green, red and yellow vein names, with kanna alongside.** The vein colours are strain designations for kratom, not tea varieties, and the wellness framing on the board makes that easy to miss. Kratom is the leaf of Mitragyna speciosa, a Southeast Asian tree; its principal alkaloids act on the opioid receptors, regular use produces tolerance and a genuine withdrawal syndrome, several US states ban it outright, and its concentrated 7-hydroxymitragynine derivatives are under active federal scheduling. Kava carries no comparable dependence profile. If your reason for looking up a kava bar is that you are avoiding substances that can take hold, order the plain kava and ask before adding anything to it.
