Mírate opened in late November 2022 in Los Feliz, the second project from co-owner Matthew Egan and chef Joshua Gil after Beverly Hills' Mírame, and it is a genuinely spectacular room. Egan's description of the effect is accurate: people's jaws drop when they round the corner of the bar and see what is hidden behind the storefront. The space runs to 7,500 square feet across several levels — a quieter, darker agave bar upstairs, the livelier Bar Mírate downstairs, and a mezzanine dining deck with a roof that opens, built around a tree in a planted atrium. Its bar programme is one of the most decorated in the country: it debuted on North America's 50 Best Bars in 2024, climbed thirty-four places to No.12 in 2025 — taking Best Bar in West USA and the Highest Climber award — and sits at No.28 in 2026. Beverage director Max Reis sets the tone at the top of the agave list: no additives, no celebrities, no bullshit.

We owe readers a correction, and it is the reason this entry has been downgraded. We previously listed Mírate's Tepache and Nitro Pulque as its non-alcoholic drinks. They are not presented that way, and the evidence points the other direction. They sit in a section headed Bebidas Ancestral — ancestral beverages — printed between the classic cocktails and the Mexican wines, as one more alcoholic category; the third item beside them is Pasita, a rum-raisin liqueur from Puebla. No part of the menu calls them non-alcoholic, and no ABV is printed. Pulque, fermented from agave sap, is traditionally somewhere around 4–7% ABV, which is beer strength; tepache's alcohol depends entirely on how long it has fermented and can be anywhere from negligible to several per cent. Reis has said he takes immense pride in offering them in their authentic format, so that someone who enjoys them in a cocktail can then taste the ingredient in its pure form — and the bar does exactly that, pouring both into fully alcoholic drinks elsewhere on the list. North America's 50 Best Bars describes the same items plainly as pre-Hispanic fermented beverages. So we have removed them. We could not find a dedicated alcohol-free section at Mírate at all. A bar this good will almost certainly build you something excellent without alcohol — but ask, rather than ordering from Bebidas Ancestral and assuming.

This labyrinth of a Mexican restaurant in Los Feliz looks like a luxurious, multi-story treehouse built for a billionaire evading the IRS in the jungle.
