Raven Records opened at 24 Camden Road in late 2023, about 100 metres from Camden Town station, and pitches itself as the world's first heavy-metal alcohol-free bar. The venue is three things at once: a vinyl, CD, book and band-merch record store, a metal-themed coffee shop pouring ultra-dark roasts from Black Coffee Worship and occult teas from Black Prism Tea, and a fully 0.0% bar. A basement space (complete with an illuminated upside-down cross) hosts DJ sets, signings and events.
The bar is genuinely alcohol-free from top to bottom. On draught there's Heineken 0.0 alongside Guinness 0.0, Stella 0.0 and a full range of 0.0% beers and ciders, including beer from independent craft NA brewer Brulo. The back bar carries seven different alcohol-free whiskies plus AF gin, vodka and tequila and a range of botanical and mood-enhancing spirits, which the team builds into alcohol-free cocktails. The fridge rounds it out with Liquid Death and functional drinks from Trip, Goodrays and Peak.
The project is personal for co-owner Ben Dean, who has spoken openly about being in recovery and runs a secular twelve-step program; his co-owner Chloe DJs. Together they set out to make a space where metal fans can socialise without alcohol at the centre of it. Raven Records is open Thursday to Monday, 12pm to 8pm.
