The Dog Bar combines a full bar with a private off-leash dog park on Central Avenue in St. Petersburg's Grand Central District — members bring their dogs, the dogs run, and the humans drink. It has been a USA Today finalist for best dog bar in America, and the format explains a great deal about why its non-alcoholic list is as developed as it is.
A dog bar is a daytime venue in a way most bars are not. People arrive at eleven on a Saturday, stay two hours, and then drive home with a dog in the car. That is a customer base with a structural reason not to drink, and the bar has responded properly rather than pointing at the soda gun: seven mocktails, eight non-alcoholic beers and a CBD seltzer, against 30-plus rotating drafts on the alcoholic side. The named builds have the same sense of humour as the room — the Nah'Chelada, Safe Sex On The Beach, a Virgin Mary.
I Love The Burg rated it in January 2024 as having one of the best mocktail menus around, listing the seven mocktails, eight NA beers and the CBD seltzer as the reason. Eight non-alcoholic beers is a genuinely unusual number — most bars carry one, occasionally two, and treat the category as covered.
Practical notes: it opens at noon Monday to Thursday and 11am at weekends, running to midnight or 1am, so it works across the whole day. Entry with a dog requires membership and proof of vaccination; visiting without one is straightforward. It is a full bar rather than an alcohol-free venue — but of everywhere in this city, it is the one where not drinking is closest to the norm rather than the exception.
