Doshi House

Deepak Doshi, who left a corporate job, opened Doshi House in the Historic Third Ward in April 2012, inside a corner building that had operated as an art gallery since November 2010. He kept the space's rotating local artwork rather than converting it into a conventional coffee shop, and it has become a gathering spot for students from nearby Texas Southern University and the University of Houston as well as neighborhood regulars, near Emancipation Park and the Project Row Houses public-art site.

Because Doshi House is a vegetarian cafe that has never served alcohol, every drink on its menu is non-alcoholic by design rather than by special accommodation. The coffee side runs on beans from local roaster Greenway Coffee via espresso and cortado, while the tea program includes a 36-hour brewed chai latte, Japanese matcha, and traditional karak cha masala chai. A dedicated 'Tonics & Infusions' menu adds house-made non-alcoholic builds such as a tamarind-dates-jalapeño elixir, a Korean ginseng and chrysanthemum tonic, and a hibiscus-lavender-rose blend.

Houston Press critic Katharine Shilcutt reviewed the cafe in 2012, writing that beans from Greenway Coffee were "put to excellent use in well-made cortados and frappes that contain Doshi's own homemade caramel or chocolate," and describing the space as "an art space, community meetingspot and vegetarian cafe in one." As of July 2026 the cafe remains open daily from 7:30am to 3:00pm at 3419 Emancipation Ave.
