12102 Westheimer Rd, Houston, TX 77077

Qamaria Yemeni Coffee Co. trades on the stretch of Westheimer Road that runs through Briar Forest, and it is worth being precise about that location because almost every aggregator files it under Westchase. The City of Houston's own super-neighborhood boundary puts it in Briar Forest, and the distinction matters if you are navigating by district rather than by address.

The menu is the traditional Yemeni one. Mufawaar is coffee with cardamom and cream, served here iced as well as hot, and it is the house's most-ordered drink. Qishr is the older preparation and the more interesting one — an infusion of cascara, the dried fruit husk surrounding the coffee bean, spiced with cardamom, ginger and cinnamon. It contains far less caffeine than brewed coffee and tastes closer to a spiced fruit tea, which makes it the drink to order late in the evening. Juban kettle coffee and Aden tea fill out the traditional side. The modern side runs sweeter and younger: an iced pistachio latte, a Qamaria iced latte, and the araysi, a mango drink finished with a vanilla drizzle that is squarely aimed at the dessert end of the evening.

The hours are what qualify it for this directory. Eleven at night Sunday through Thursday, midnight on Friday and Saturday, every week — hours that overlap almost exactly with the bars a few miles east, which means it functions as a genuine alternative rather than a consolation. The format assumes you will sit: the rooms in this chain are built with large tables and long sightlines, because the entire cultural point of a Yemeni coffeehouse is that it is somewhere to spend three hours talking, not somewhere to collect a cup.

On alcohol, no permit exists for the trade name anywhere in Texas and none at this address, and nothing on the menu contains any. That is evidence rather than a claim the venue makes in those words, and it is worth stating that way round. Note also that this is a chain branch; its nearest sibling is in Richmond, outside Houston's city limits, so the two do not overlap within the city.
