Elixir Lounge Kava Bar is a fully alcohol-free tiki lounge and kava bar in Old Town Spring, the historic district on Houston's far-north edge. Founded by owner Chris Jepson, it opened on August 30, 2022, at 206 Main St. and celebrated its grand opening on September 3 with live music and hula dancers. It bills itself as the only N/A tiki-mocktail lounge, kava bar, and botanical-supplement shop in the Houston area.
The drink program centers on Polynesian kava and kratom, sourced from farms in Fiji, Vanuatu, and the Solomon Islands, served in traditional shells and bowls alongside zero-proof "virgin cocktails" like a Piña Colada (available straight or kava-infused) and a Mojo-jito. The tea side of the menu runs to iced cream teas, hot teas, and builds like the Lavender Lady (Earl Grey tea with vanilla and lavender syrups, whipped cream, and a honey drizzle), plus nitro cold brew, kombucha, artisan coffees, and herbal teas. Kava shells are poured in single and double sizes, with a Monday–Wednesday happy hour from 4–7pm.
Jepson brings real industry depth to the concept: before opening Elixir he worked as a kava and kratom supplier partnering with more than 65 kava bars nationally, visited over 150 kava establishments to study their operations and design, and has traveled to Indonesia 19 times to work directly with indigenous communities harvesting wild kratom leaves. Manager Cassandra Abercrombie frames the menu's two halves simply: kava is the calming side, kratom the energizing one.
The tiki-styled space — porch swings, couches, lanterns — is pet-friendly and hosts karaoke, drag bingo, live music, trivia, and game nights, building what Jepson calls a welcoming "tribe" of regulars who can gather whether or not they drink. At its 2022 debut the lounge's manager framed the goal as bringing "more night life, tourism and youth culture to Old Town Spring" — one of the district's first venues built entirely around zero-proof socializing.
